New York Asian Film Festival 2007

The New York Asian Film Festival is screening some cool films at the IFC and the Japan Society through July 8th.
After walking briefly through the Pride Parade crowds and shooting some neat videos of vogueing drag queens, I went to the IFC’s Korean Mise-En-Scene Genres Film Festival (MGFF) short film throwdown Sunday afternoon (Program 1 of 3) and was really inspired.
MISE-EN-SCENE’s GENRE FILM FESTIVAL SHORT FILM THROWDOWN!
Korea’s greatest directors (PARK Chan-wook, RYU Seung-wan, E. J-Yong and more) have teamed up to curate the Mise-en-Scene’s Genre Film Festival (MGFF) where they pick the best comedy, horror, action, sci-fi and romance short films and now they’re bringing the best of the fest to New York City.
The two feature length films I am most excited about seeing this week are:
* Big Bang Love (Takashi Miike)
THU JUNE 28 IFC 7PM, THU JULY 5TH JAPAN SOCIETY 6:45PM
* I’m a Cyborg, but That’s OK (PARK Chan-wook)
SAT JUNE 30 IFC 8:15PM (last screening for festival)
PARK Chan-wook directed two of my favorite films: Old Boy and Lady Vengeance.
There is also a Pakistani exploitation zombie movie, some great love stories, and much more.
