Check out my music show adventures from this past weekend on MTV’s You R Here blog.

I didn’t plan on writing anything but decided if I truly am a music fan, the least I can do is help Team Dresch and Antler get some coverage.

In totally unrelated news, I met with my French instructor this morning and we are in the process of plotting out the summer syllabus. If you know of any places in NYC where I can practice my French speaking skills with native speakers, please leave me a comment.

Pistolera Touring Up A Storm & Band 2.0 Tip

Ani and Sandra at Zanzibar after a show

I love Pistolera. Back in the winter of 2006, I was lucky enough to shoot/direct their first music video that has since aired on several channels and is included on an immigration rights DVD.

~ Currently in the Lair pipeline is a feature on Pistolera for the June/July issue of Urban Latino Magazine. I hope you will check it out and let me know what you think.

Pistolera just finished wrapping up their spring Belgium/Holland tour, and a few days ago finally returned to the states after performing for thousands of people at the Ollin Kan Festival in Mexico City.

!!! Check them out for free at the upcoming Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival on July 5th !!!

Here is an excerpt from their Belgium/Holland tour diary:

“Our only gig in Brussels! A cool space called DeKriekelaar. It was the best show of the tour! Totally packed, and there were even latinos there that cheered for the lyrics. We did a great merch and Eileen had a stalker…”

After the jump, a clip from that very show and a handy 2.0 tip for bands seeking quick/accurate blog coverage:

NYC TV’s Press Play Competition

Posted on April 26, 2007. Filed under: My Projects, Press Play |

I just received an email telling me that my short film “Proximity” is a finalist in NYC TV’s Press Play competition. They challenged viewers to submit short works made in/around NYC. If you are selected, they will air your short and you will win a prize from TekServe.

You can either mail in a DVD/VHS copy for consideration, or a link to where it is hosted. The next step for finalists is to send in a recorded intro to the short and a high res mini dv version.

* I am going to be applying my development/marketing skillage to the upcoming NewFest: The 19th New York LGBT Film Festival.

Over the past few years, I have done volunteer promo/marketing work for the Tribeca Film Festival and Brooklyn Underground Film festival. There are a lot of great changes already in store for NewFest, so it will be good times participating in their growth.

Feeling a Political Wednesday: The Giant Awakens & Tori Amos’ Anti-War album

Posted on April 4, 2007. Filed under: My Projects, Pistolera |

The Giant Awakens is a DVD compilation of compelling short films from all around the country, due to hit the streets in the weeks before Mayday 2007. Shot, edited, and brought together by a network of independent video activists, graphic designers, community organizers, musicians, and immigrant rights activists, it is a collective memory and a tool to inspire action this MayDay 2007, when the Giant will raise its voice again to say: we are one people, without borders. (from website)

My video for Pistolera’s song “Cazador” will be included on this DVD and I am looking forward to checking out the other contributions.

Tori Amos’ new album American Doll Posse will be available May 1st. It will have several anti-war songs and she will also be touring Europe beginning May 28th (according to her MySpace page). I might see her perform in Paris in June, I hope!

Check out mtvnews.com tomorrow morning for an interview with Amos about the album, her tour, and inspirations. I read it already, haha ;P

Vacation, got to get away.

Posted on April 3, 2007. Filed under: My Projects |

I shot some interesting Louisiana sights and sounds, I may upload something later this week. …I’ve been feeling a bit uninspired. Perhaps it’s because I wasn’t ready to return to work.

Rummaging

…I found this image I made a while back for my roommate’s myspace page and it perked me up (a little):

I think it successfully captured her personality.

…Oh yes, Killer Films has a MySpace page.

Short Film preview: Proximity

Posted on March 22, 2007. Filed under: My Projects, Proximity, short film |

I just uploaded the final version of Proximity to Blip TV.

Description: On a routine day after returning home from work, a young woman begins experiencing unnerving encounters with her material possessions.

Other locations (pending processing):

Google Video

Atom Films

Current TV

For fun, I also added stills from Proximity to my flickr account.

I don’t know what I want to do with them, but at least they are there in case I need them for anything. My first guess would be for future press related requests. In any case, it’s another method to share info about my short. If anyone searches in flickr for “brooklyn”, “apartment”, “blackberry”, etc., my stills will show up (with a link to the short).

Ok seriously, time for bed.

MTV News to cover Bilingual Bands

Posted on March 19, 2007. Filed under: Los Abandoned, MTV News, My Projects |

Happy Monday!

I just finished watching a rough cut of my bilingual bands package. In the talented hands of Lee and Tami, I am confident that it’s going to come out great. Along with live performance clips and excerpts from their latest music videos, it will include exclusive interviews with Los Abandoned, Kinky, and Pacha Massive.

Be sure to check it out on MTV/MTVU/MTV2/MTV TR3S, etc. this Wednesday, 3/21! I will most likely be handling the digital production of this as well so drop by either Wednesday 3/21 or Thursday 3/22 to mtvnews.com for extra bilingual bands goodness.

After it airs I can  give you the lowdown on how it all came together.

…In non work related news, this past weekend I saw 300. It was the most brainless, awesome, homoerotic testosterone-fest. It made Braveheart look like a tea dance. …I also predict there will be a lot of Spartan costumes at this year’s Halloween parade in the Village. Can’t wait!
